Film and TV Location

Trewan Hall has played a significant role in bringing the enchanting world of Rosamunde Pilcher to the screen. Twice chosen as a Film Location for screen adaptations of her works, we first appeared in 2012 as a convent and orphanage in "Falsches Leben, wahre Liebe" (False Life, True Love), the German adaptation of "The False Nun." We then returned to the screen in 2021 as a key location in "Love and Other Treasures," further solidifying our connection to the beloved author.
The False Nun 2012
This Rosamunde Pilcher adaptation, directed by Hans-Jurgen Togel and starring Nadine Warmuth, Jan Hartmann, and Carin C. Tietze, tells the poignant story of Penelope's journey as she navigates the complexities of her newfound faith, her growing attraction to a handsome young doctor, and the secrets and betrayals that threaten to tear apart the convent community. Ultimately, Penelope must decide whether to remain in the convent and dedicate her life to God, or to embrace the possibility of love and happiness in the world outside.

For this production, the main house at Trewan Hall served as the backdrop for St Helena's Orphanage, while rooms within the historic main building were utilized for various other scenes. Filming took place during April, before the start of our camping season, allowing the crew to capture the vibrant colours already blooming in the gardens and grounds.

Cornwall, with its breath-taking landscapes, has long been a favoured filming location for Rosamunde Pilcher adaptations. The dramatic cliffside shots and picturesque coastal scenery, particularly our nearby stretch between Newquay and Padstow, have become synonymous with her works. Trewan Hall, with its timeless elegance and rich history, perfectly embodies the spirit of these well-loved stories.

Back in 2012 this was a very new undertaking for the family but something that went down as a real success, it was quite surreal seeing Trewan in the edit and being used as a very different setting. Here are some photos of our experience;

Love and Other Treasures
In 2021, Trewan Hall served as a Film Location for the Rosamunde Pilcher adaptation, "Love and Other Treasures" (ep 143). Filming took place in August while the campsite was operational, with minimal disruption. The production, by FFP New Media, aired on ZDF in Germany.

Brief Summary of "Love and Other Treasures": This Rosamunde Pilcher story follows Mia Barlow, a museum curator raised by the museum director and his ailing wife. When the museum faces closure due to financial difficulties, Mia competes for the director's position against adventurous treasure hunter Jason Carter. A challenging recruitment test forces them to collaborate, leading to unexpected attraction despite initial animosity. The plot involves a hidden treasure linked to a 19th-century missionary's secret life, including a forbidden marriage to a South African woman. As they unravel the mystery, they navigate personal and professional complexities, ultimately confronting betrayal and self-discovery.
